18 digital TV channels From SABC

South Africa's state broadcaster, the SABC, told parliament on Wed. that it plans to bring seventeen Television channels and an "interactive video service" on air after it launches its digital earthly TV offering, SABC speaker Kaizer Kganyago latterly confirmed. The number comprises the broadcaster's 3 existing channels, SABC one, two, and three. Kganyago explained the fifteen new channels will be phased in over the 1st 2 years after the launching of the DTT platform. "By providing these TV channels, radio stations and interactive services, the SABC will be making full utilisation of the capacity allotted to the SABC in Multiplex one under the provisions of ICASA's laws from Feb 2010," Kganyago announced. The South African Dep. of Communications ( DoC ) has set the DTT switch-on date for April 2012, with the purpose of switching off analog Television broadcasts by December 2013. The method is known as SA's "digital migration" and will end in frequency range now employed by analog Television broadcasts to become available for other applications. This "digital dividend" range is wanted by mobile network operators who say that it's particularly engaging for agricultural roll-outs and the deployment of new high speed technologies like Long-term Evolution ( LTE ).
